Evaluation terms
This page describes what an Avalon evaluation license includes, how we recommend you run your trial, and the warranties attached to it. It applies to every evaluation license granted free of charge by Avalon - Network Automation Platform.
What the evaluation includes
- A license valid for 30 days from the date it is issued, extendable by renewal on request.
- A scope of 500 managed devices by default, adjustable on request.
- The virtual appliance, which you deploy on your own infrastructure.
- Access to our documentation and to our team for the whole duration of the trial.
The license is issued after your request has been reviewed. It is intended for evaluating Avalon in your environment, and commits you to nothing.
How we recommend you proceed
Avalon acts on network equipment, some of which carries critical services. Here is the progression we recommend during an evaluation.
On your production network, everything that changes nothing
Automatic discovery, compliance audits, configuration backups and the Netbox integration write nothing to your equipment. You can enable them on your real network from day one, with no particular precaution. They are also what will give you the fastest accurate picture of what Avalon brings: an exact inventory, an up-to-date topology, a configuration history and a compliance status for your estate.
Services, in dry run mode
Service deployment offers a dry run mode, which shows you the configurations that would be pushed without applying them. During the evaluation, we recommend you stay with it: you confirm the result matches your intent, on your real production network, without changing anything on it.
Firmware upgrades, outside production
This is the most committing operation, and the one whose rollback costs the most. For the duration of the trial, keep it to non-production equipment or to a lab setup.
What remains yours
- Choosing which equipment you operate on, and when.
- Backing up your configurations before any change.
- Reviewing the configurations proposed in dry run before applying them.
- Following your own change management procedures.
Warranties and liability
The evaluation license is granted free of charge and for evaluation purposes. The software is provided as is, with no warranty that it will meet a particular requirement, nor that it will operate uninterrupted or error free.
To the extent permitted by law, Avalon - Network Automation Platform shall not be liable for damages arising from the use of the software during the evaluation, including service interruptions, loss of configuration or loss of data. These limitations apply neither in cases of gross negligence or wilful misconduct, nor where the law sets them aside.
You remain responsible for ensuring that your use of Avalon complies with the rules applicable within your organisation.
What travels during the evaluation
The appliance runs on your infrastructure, and everything it collects about your network stays there: inventory, configurations, topology, compliance status. None of it is sent to us.
One outbound connection is required. Avalon Manager connects to our servers to download the Avalon version it should run, and only your license travels, for authentication purposes.
If your security policy rules out that connection, ask us for an application bundle. You upload it manually into Avalon Manager, and the appliance then needs no access to our servers at all. Tell us in your trial request, or by replying to our email.
Duration and end of the evaluation
The license stops taking effect at its expiry date. You can end your evaluation at any time by deleting the appliance, which removes every piece of collected data along with it.
